The segment nearly vanished when the Ford Transit Connect, Nissan NV200, and Mercedes-Benz Metris all left the market, leaving buyers who wanted a compact work van with no new option. Production begins in 2026, with vans reaching dealers in the first quarter of 2027.

Engine and Towing

A turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder makes 166 horsepower and 221 lb-ft. of torque through an eight-speed automatic driving the front wheels. It targets 2,000 lbs. of towing with the available Class 3 hitch and carries over 2,000 lbs. of payload, giving it Class 2 capability in a compact footprint.

Cargo Space and Dimensions

The ProMaster City holds more than 167 cubic feet of cargo, with a 111-inch load floor, 54-inch cargo height, and over 48 inches between the rear wheel wells, enough to fit standard 4-by-8-foot materials.

Buyers can choose rear swing doors or a segment-exclusive rear liftgate, and with nearly all vehicle systems packaged ahead of the cargo area, the box stays open for shelving and trade-specific upfits. At under 80 inches tall, it clears most urban parking garages, which Ram says no other Class 2 van can do.
