2027 Hyundai Tucson Has Bold Steel Design, 42 MPG Hybrid, and Built-in AI Assistant
The 2027 Hyundai Tucson is the fifth generation of Hyundai's best-selling SUV worldwide, redesigned with a larger body, a hybrid targeting up to 42 mpg, and a built-in AI agent called Gleo AI. Hyundai revealed it in Long Island City, New York, on October 1, 2026.
The 2027 Hyundai Tucson launches in North America in 2027, with US pricing still to come. Hyundai has sold more than 11.1 million Tucsons since 2004.
Powertrain and Fuel Economy
The 2027 Tucson comes with a turbocharged gas engine or a hybrid, both with front- or all-wheel drive. The gas model uses a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 184 horsepower and 195 lb-ft. of torque, an eight-speed automatic, and 28 mpg with front-wheel drive and 26 mpg with all-wheel drive.
Tucson Hybrid
The hybrid pairs the same turbocharged 1.6-liter engine with two electric motors and a 1.49-kWh battery for 233 horsepower and 280 lb-ft. of torque. It runs through a six-speed automatic and targets 0-60 mph in 8.5 seconds. Hyundai targets 42 mpg with front-wheel drive on 17-inch wheels and 38 to 40 mpg with all-wheel drive.
The all-wheel-drive hybrid tows up to 3,000 lbs., a 1,000-lb. increase over the previous model. Two features are exclusive to the hybrid. E-Traction adjusts drive torque in corners to cut wheel slip, and Stay Mode runs the climate control, audio, and device charging with the engine off.
Design and Interior
Hyundai calls the look Art of Steel, with muscular fenders, H-Edge front lighting, and Prism Rear Lamps. The North American model is 185.0 inches long and 75.0 inches wide on a 109.6-inch wheelbase, growing 2.4 inches in length and 1.6 in width.
Inside, a two-layer dash adds an open storage tray, the shifter moves to the steering column, and physical buttons stay for climate and audio. Cargo space is 41.7 cubic feet, and rear legroom is 41.9 inches.
Pleos Connect
The Tucson is the first Hyundai in the US with Pleos Connect, an infotainment system built on Android Automotive OS. It pairs a 12.9-inch or 17-inch center screen with a standard 9.9-inch driver display. Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, native apps, and over-the-air updates are included.
2027 Hyundai Tucson AI Voice Assistant
Gleo AI is the AI voice assistant built into Pleos Connect. Drivers wake it by saying "Hey Gleo" or "Hey Hyundai," then talk to it in plain language. It can set a destination, adjust the climate, and answer questions, and it handles more than one request at a time. Ask for a hiking trail with parking within 30 minutes, and it pulls up matching results.
2027 Hyundai Tucson Trims
The 2027 Tucson comes in four US trim levels, SE, SEL, Limited, and XRT PRO. The gas engine and the hybrid are both offered on SE, SEL, and Limited with front- or all-wheel drive, while the XRT PRO is hybrid only.
The Limited tops the standard lineup. Available upgrades include the 17-inch center screen, dual 15-watt wireless charging pads, wheels up to 20 inches, Ground View Monitor, and Memory Reversing Assist. A sport-inspired variant debuts at the Paris Motor Show on October 12.
Tucson XRT PRO
The XRT PRO is the off-road build. It gets all-wheel drive, 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, front recovery hooks, underbody skid plates, and 8.3 inches of ground clearance, 1.2 inches more than other trims. Inside, it wears a black cabin with dark metal accents and XRT seat patterns and logos.
Tucson XRT PRO also debuts Smart Terrain Assist, a Hyundai first offered only in North America. The system reads traction and wheel slip in real time, rates the terrain with a green, orange, or red stuck score, and can automatically switch drive modes.
Another feature called Target Speed Control works like cruise control for off-road driving. The driver picks a speed between about 1 and 16 mph, and the system handles the throttle and brakes so the driver can focus on steering. An available Ground View Monitor shows the terrain ahead of and beneath the vehicle.
Safety
Hyundai is targeting a five-star NHTSA rating and an IIHS Top Safety Pick+. An In-Cabin Monitoring Unit watches for driver drowsiness, and Child Presence Detection warns if a child or pet is left behind.
