Data Shows Cars Are Parked 95% of the Time

The average car is parked about 95% of the time, or roughly 22 hours and 55 minutes a day. Household vehicles were driven an average of just 64.6 minutes on a typical day in 2022, according to a U.S. Department of Energy analysis of the Federal Highway Administration's 2022 National Household Travel Survey.

The same survey found households took 37% fewer trips than in 2017, reflecting remote work, more errands moving online, and permanent shifts in commuting habits after the pandemic.
