1,578 HP Bugatti Destrier Redefines Hypercar Silhouettes at Just 39.4 Inches Tall
The Bugatti Destrier is the third one-off from Programme Solitaire, the brand's most exclusive commission service. Solitaire cars are true one-of-ones, designed around a single customer and never repeated. Bugatti launched Programme Solitaire in August 2025 and builds no more than two of these cars per year.
The Lowest Bugatti Ever Built
The Destrier stands one meter tall, or 39.4 inches. No Bugatti has ever sat lower. Wheels measure 20 inches at the front and 21 at the rear. The Bolide runs 18-inch wheels at both ends. Against bodywork this clean, the larger wheels dominate the profile.
The cabin sits low between the two front wings. Behind the doors, the body narrows into a tight waist before widening over the rear wheels. Bugatti says proportions like these usually stay in early design sketches rather than reaching production.
Two Cars, One Chassis
The Destrier uses just the Bolide's carbon fiber monocoque and its mechanical hardware. The two share almost nothing visually. Bugatti has split a platform this way before. The Type 57 chassis underpinned the Type 57G and Type 57C "Tank" racers that won Le Mans outright in 1937 and 1939. It also underpinned the Type 57SC Atlantic, regarded by many as the most beautiful car ever built. A hand-laser-engraved plate above the windscreen depicts both the Tank and the Atlantic.
Where the Name Destrier Comes From
A destrier was the warhorse a medieval knight rode into battle, the finest and strongest type available. Bugatti carried that through the car. The low, crouched stance gives it the posture of a horse ready to pounce while standing still, and the hammered metal finishes inside and in the engine bay reference a knight's hand-beaten armor.
Destrier Design Details
Every Bugatti has a C-line, the curved strip of brightwork along each side. It usually runs unbroken. Here it stops short of the front wheel, leaves a gap of bare bodywork, then continues into the horseshoe grille. The grille is wider than the Bolide's. The rear wing borrows from the Chiron Profilée. The oil filler cap carries the Destrier emblem and a "1/1" mark.
The paint is a custom blue called "Sapphire Celeste," flecked with a diamond-like sparkle. It nods to a famous Type 57SC Atlantic that wore blue before being repainted black. Carbon fiber shows only on the front splitter and rear diffuser, tinted to match.
Inside the Destrier
Bugatti built the cabin like a tailor's shop, every surface chosen and fitted for one owner. It is a hard turn from the Bolide's stripped, track-focused cockpit. Bugatti used three materials throughout the cabin of the Destrier.
Leather and nubuck in a warm brown called "Ambre Voyageur," plus a 3D-knitted textile developed with techniques from high fashion and performance sportswear. The knit forms seamless three-dimensional surfaces rather than flat panels. Copper yarns run through it as sparkling highlights, woven into a circular halo pattern that wraps the cabin. Contrast stitching traces the geometry of each component and repeats in the headrest embroidery and center console.
A hammered metal finish covers the door opener, air vents, steering wheel hub, and entry plate, a nod to a knight's hand-beaten armor. The same finish returns on brightwork in the engine bay. A small French flag sits at the center of the cabin.
Bugatti's Head of Color and Trim, Sabine Consolini, said every material was chosen the way a tailor selects cloth. The leather and nubuck bring a warm, human counterpoint to the deep blue of the exterior, she said, while the copper-threaded knit wraps the cabin in a single seamless halo.
How Much Power Does the Bugatti Destrier Have
The Bugatti Destrier makes 1,600 PS, or roughly 1,578 hp, from a quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine carried over complete from the Bolide. It is the W16 at the peak of its development.
Bugatti barely mentions the engine. In its press release, the specs get one line near the end, with no weight, top speed, or lap time listed. This car is about design, not numbers. Design chief Frank Heyl said he expects it to still be turning up at Concours events 50 years from now.
Price and Debut
Bugatti has not said what the Destrier cost. Solitaire commissions are private, and the company does not publish prices for them. The Destrier makes its public debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance during Monterey Car Week.
