2027 Honda Civic Type R Gets Sharper Aero, Heated Seats and a $49,990 Price
Honda refreshed the Civic Type R for 2027 with a more aggressive front end, chassis tuning, and the first heated seats in the model's history. The hot hatch, or high-performance hatchback, starts at $48,695, or $49,990 with the $1,295 destination charge.

315 Horsepower and Still Manual Only
The turbocharged 2.0-liter K20C engine still makes 315 horsepower, the most of any Honda production vehicle ever sold in the U.S. A six-speed manual remains the only transmission, and Honda says the Type R is the only car in its class sold exclusively with one.

Built in Ohio, Rated at 24 MPG Combined
The engine is built at Honda's Anna Engine Plant in Ohio. It then ships to Japan, where the Type R is assembled at Honda's Yorii plant. EPA ratings are 22 mpg city, 28 highway, and 24 combined.

Performance Updates
A redesigned front fascia has a larger grille opening and a deeper front splitter. Honda says the changes reduce turbulence, improve engine cooling, and add downforce for sustained track driving.

Sharper Shifts, Firmer Brakes, Smoother Ride
Suspension damping is retuned in +R mode, the car's most aggressive drive setting, to reduce bouncing and impact harshness. The Rev Match system, which blips the throttle automatically on downshifts, now responds faster. A yoke spring added to the brake pedal removes linkage play for a more direct feel. A new engine cover nods to early Type R models sold in Japan.

Heated Seats Arrive
Heated front seats with three levels are standard for the first time. The red suede-like seats get a new perforation pattern with black striping. Ultrasuede, a synthetic suede, now covers the upper instrument panel and front door panels, which Honda says cuts windshield glare.

Darker Trim and New Cabin Details
Also new are a diamond-pattern dash trim panel, black climate and air vent knobs, silver front door trim, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a darker grey finish on the aluminum shift knob, console trim and door handles.

Tech and Safety
Google built-in arrives on the Type R for the first time with Google Maps, Google Play, and Gemini, Google's AI voice assistant. It also adds Alexa built-in and two USB-C ports above the standard wireless phone charger.

Honda Sensing, the brand's standard driver-assist suite, gains better motorcycle and bicycle detection for automatic emergency braking, quicker adaptive cruise control response, and smoother lane keeping. Post-Collision Braking, designed to limit damage in multi-crash collisions, is standard for the first time.

A New Dual-Tone Horn
The horn is now dual-tone. It sounds a high note and a low note at the same time for a fuller sound than a single note. It made Honda's official list of 2027 changes, alongside the deeper splitter and retuned suspension.

Colors and Anniversary
Meteorite Gray Metallic joins Boost Blue Pearl, Sonic Gray Pearl and Championship White. Premium paint colors add $455. The 2027 model year marks 30 years of the Civic Type R globally and 10 years in North America. Honda calls it America's best-selling hot hatch.
