2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500: New V8s, Fewer Trims, and the Most Powerful Silverado Yet
Chevrolet has pulled the covers off the next-generation 2027 Silverado 1500, calling it the most powerful and advanced Silverado ever built. For the second best-selling vehicle in the country, a clean-sheet redesign is a genuine event, and Chevrolet used the reveal to lay out new engines, a reworked trim lineup, and a fully digital interior.

Two new V8s lead the powertrain lineup
The 2027 Silverado 1500 is powered by available next-generation 5.7L and 6.6L V8 engines, which replace the outgoing 5.3L and 6.2L V8S. Chevrolet says the pair gives the Silverado the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in its class, building on the brand's Small Block heritage and more than a century of truck experience.
The lineup keeps four powertrain choices. Alongside the two new V8s, an enhanced 2.7L TurboMax four-cylinder returns with what Chevrolet calls best-in-class standard torque, and the segment-exclusive 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel carries over.
One notable change for buyers: the 2.7L TurboMax now pairs with a 10-speed automatic transmission, which becomes standard across all four powertrains. The Duramax diesel also becomes available in the Work Truck trim for the first time.

According to executive chief engineer Mark Dickens, the new engines underwent an extensive testing and validation process to deliver the durability, capability, and dependability that Silverado owners expect.
The 5.7L and 6.6L V8s will be assembled at GM's Flint Engine Operations, Tonawanda Propulsion, and St. Catharines Propulsion plants.
A Reworked Lineup, Led by the Off-Road Trims
Chevrolet has streamlined the Silverado into seven trims: Work Truck, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, Silverado, Trail Boss, ZR2, and High Country. The most visible change is that the LT name goes away, with Silverado now serving as a core trim in its place. Chevrolet says the move gives customers clearer, more attainable choices across the lineup while keeping the capability and versatility buyers expect.
Off-road buyers get more attention this time around. Three of the seven trims are lifted, led by what Chevrolet calls its most off-road capable ZR2 ever, followed by the Trail Boss and the entry-level Custom Trail Boss.
The Lineup

Work Truck
The Work Truck is the fleet and commercial foundation of the lineup, built around uptime, serviceability, and the long-haul durability Chevy's full-size trucks are known for. The next-generation V8s are tuned here for the durability and consistency fleet managers demand, and configurations are set up to accept common upfits for construction, utility, and municipal use.
The interiors are straightforward and easy to clean, designed to be simple for drivers to learn across large, diverse fleets. Even as the base trim, the Work Truck still carries the new digital displays and driver-assistance technology found across the range.

Custom
The Custom steps up from the Work Truck while keeping the focus on value, delivering full-size capability with the essential content most buyers want. For 2027, it now includes standard dual exhaust and 20-inch Technical Gray machine-faced wheels.
Custom Trail Boss
The Custom Trail Boss is the entry point to Silverado's off-road lineup, offering buyers authentic off-road style and performance with a 2-inch lift and 34-inch tires at a lower starting price than the Trail Boss. It covers the same lifted-stance ground as its pricier siblings for customers who want the look and capability without stepping up the range.
Silverado
The Silverado trim is new for 2027, taking over as the core trim in place of the old LT name and anchoring the middle of the lineup. Chevrolet says the move gives customers clearer, more attainable choices while preserving the capability, presence, and versatility expected from a full-size Chevy truck. For buyers who choose Silverado 4WD, the Z71 off-road package now comes standard, adding skid plates, hill descent control, and an off-road suspension.

Trail Boss
The Trail Boss is the mid-level off-road build, aimed at customers who want real capability and presence without stepping all the way up to the ZR2. On the outside, 34-inch mud-terrain tires, a 2-inch factory lift, and a dedicated off-road hood give it a distinct, ready-for-the-trail stance, with unique visual cues that set it apart from the core trims.
Inside, it offers two unique interior themes with Torch Red-edged seatbelts and seats featuring fabric accent inserts in a custom perforation pattern, clear cues that mark it as part of the off-road family.

ZR2
The ZR2 is engineered as the off-road flagship of the family, built on the nameplate's blend of proven trail capability and on-road comfort. It rides on 35-inch mud-terrain tires with a 2-inch lift, standard front and rear electronic locking differentials, and a dedicated off-road hood with an enhanced power dome for a more aggressive stance.

The suspension pairs desert-race-proven Multimatic DSSV dampers with jounce dampers to keep the truck composed over high-speed desert terrain, rocky trails, and everyday pavement.

Inside, the ZR2 gets a unique cabin with Torch Red accents and Torch Red-edged seat belts, along with large digital displays that keep key off-road and vehicle data in clear view. It also debuts real forged carbon-fiber trim on the doors and console, which Chevrolet notes is the first-ever use of true carbon decor on a ZR2 and GM's first application of forged carbon.

For buyers who want to go further, the available ZR2 Bison Edition, built in collaboration with American Expedition Vehicles, adds distinctive front and rear AEV bumpers, rocker protection, 18-inch beadlock-capable wheels, and a full set of skid plates protecting the front underbody, transfer case, rear differential, and fuel tank. An AEV rear badge and all-weather floor liners round out its purpose-built character.

High Country
At the top of the lineup, the High Country pairs luxury-grade comfort with full-size truck capability. On the outside, a new High Country badge and standard 22-inch After Midnight machine-faced wheels signal its flagship status, along with darker, richer trim elements, more polished detailing, and an exclusive Tritan Satin grille for a more contemporary look.

Inside, the High Country brings a Silverado-first panoramic sunroof and a choice of two interior themes, light and dark. The Multi-Flex center console carries a debossed High Country logo, and Natural Tan-edged seatbelts, real wood decor, Tritan Satin accents, custom seat treatments, and available microfiber suede materials mark it as the most premium expression of the Silverado.

Bolder Styling and a Fully Digital Interior
The 2027 Silverado gets an all-new exterior with a bolder stance and what Chevrolet describes as a stronger face and more premium execution. New LED headlights and taillights, more pronounced wheel opening moldings and rocker treatments, and standard dual exhaust on Custom and above round out the look.

Design director Phil Zak said the goal was to make the truck look stronger and more modern with a commanding presence, while staying true to the authentic truck character Chevrolet customers expect.
Inside, every 2027 Silverado features a modern digital cockpit anchored by a standard 16.3-inch center display and a 12.2-inch driver information center across the entire lineup. On ZR2 and High Country, an 11.5-inch front passenger screen comes standard, paired with a head-up display and a rear camera mirror, which Chevrolet says gives those trims access to over 60 inches of digital displays.

Super Cruise hands-free driver-assistance technology continues in the lineup, and Chevrolet highlights its segment-exclusive trailering capability, which brings hands-free driving to towing. The company notes that no other competitor in the class offers a hands-free driving system that works while towing.

A Staged Rollout
Chevrolet is revealing the 2027 Silverado 1500 in stages. The debut covered the design, engines, trims, and interior technology, while the numbers, including pricing, horsepower, torque, towing, and payload, are being released closer to the on-sale date rather than all at once. Engine-to-trim availability across the lineup is part of that later wave of detail as well.

The 2027 Silverado 1500 is expected to go on sale at the end of 2026 and will be built at GM's full-size truck assembly facilities in North America. Buyers weighing a full-size truck this cycle will want to watch for those figures as Chevrolet fills them in, since pricing and capability ratings are what ultimately separate the seven trims.
