The first Accord landed in June 1976 as a fun, fuel-efficient three-door hatchback. The name reflected Honda's goal of using technology to bring harmony between people, society, and the automobile. Fifty years later, it stands as America's best-selling car over the past five decades, with nearly 15 million sold in the United States. Cumulative sales are expected to pass 15 million later this month.

## Built in America, Sold Around the World

Honda built the first million Accords by 1988\. The tenth million sold in 2004\. Today more than 13 million have rolled out of the Marysville, Ohio plant, where production started in 1982 and has run continuously for 44 years. The Accord was also the first U.S.-made car from a Japanese automaker exported overseas, shipping to Taiwan in 1987 and to Japan in 1988.

## A Trophy Case Like No Other

The Accord became America's best-selling car in 1989, added its first V6 in 1995, and launched its first hybrid in 2005\. It won Motor Trend Car of the Year in 1994 and North American Car of the Year in 2018\. It also holds a record 40 Car and Driver 10Best wins, including the last 28 years straight.

## Still Setting the Standard

Now in its 11th generation, the Accord makes up 25 percent of retail midsize car sales in America and ranks as the most popular midsize car with Millennial, Gen Z, first-time, and multicultural buyers. More than half of Accord sales over the past three years have been electrified. The value case still holds too, with a new turbocharged 2026 Accord priced below the average used vehicle in America.
