McLaren introduced the 720S in 2017, followed it with the track-focused 765LT in 2021, then replaced it with the 750S. The 788HS caps the line with more power, more downforce, and sharper handling. It also wears the rare High Sport badge, which McLaren has granted only twice before, on the MP4-12C HS and the MSO HS. It makes 777 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and 590 lb-ft. of torque at 5,500 rpm, and it revs to 8,500 rpm. That is 37 more horsepower than the 750S. McLaren quotes 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds, 0 to 124 mph in 7.0 seconds, and a top speed of 205 mph. The car is the first in the series to use a center-lock wheel system, paired with a new Super Lightweight Forged Alloy wheel design. McLaren says the gain comes with no loss to the car's balance or handling. The design centers on an S-Duct bonnet, a raised active rear spoiler, and a Formula 1-inspired rear diffuser, all working with a bespoke front splitter. Buyers can order full visual carbon fiber bodywork through McLaren Special Operations in gloss or satin finishes, covering every exterior panel. A lightweight carbon fiber center console anchors the layout, and the upholstery carries a unique HS perforation pattern along with a dedication plaque. The steering column holds the instrument binnacle, and the steering wheel carries the powertrain and handling mode controls. Every car is finished through McLaren Special Operations, which gives each buyer the chance to build a one-off.
